Let's Peruse the essentials of cool...

Now if you immediately continued the Lupe Fiasco lyrics then know that I love you.
If you didn't then why are we friends?!? Kidding! I love you too but there is work that needs to be done.

So this is tough for me because I want so much for this to make sense but for the life of me I cannot. But I have been thinking about what it means to be cool, what it takes for my interest to be peaked in someone else and I came up with this:

I want you
well not want but more like a need
that I created unlike me need to breathe
more like my need to be free
from this invisible cave so the light I can see

Glimmers of hope peak through the stalactites of shame
The Stalagmites of pain
This prison of disdain

You overshadow what's keeping me here
And that's...
Essential

I thought when I started this I would just go on to say what Lupe says gold watch, gold chain, etc... but honestly anybody who is willing to search for me in this place I call my life is what I need...

I'm just not that into you... today

So this weekend I had a totally ran-dumb movie night where some pretty cool people showed up at my house and we watched a few movies (because what ELSE happens at a movie night?!?)

Well this was the first time that I watched "he's just not that into you" mainly because when it came out I thought to myself "eehhh the book was cute but not cute enough for me to want to see the movie" So I let three years go by before I even think about the book or the movie again. (someone else brought it up actually and I remembered reading the book)

If you want to ask me "WHY IN THE WORLD DID YOU READ THE BOOK?" that is a perfectly valid question that has a perfectly respectable answer:

Because I was bored one day and my roommate left it out on the coffee table in college!! I was 21 and the book had NOTHING to do with the readings for my comparative history:US v. South Africa, slavery vs apartheid class! It was better than watching CTV!
Any of those reasons will do. Trust me!

So anyway we watch this movie and I started to think about how I could have starred in this film... and had several roles!!! Kinda like Eddie Murphy in the Nutty Professor!!

First there was chic who fell in love with every dude that spoke to her... CHECK
Then there was the chic who myspace stalked "researched" ppl and stuff... CHECK
Then there was the chic who's best friend came out and said "I LOVE YOU"... CHECK
Then there was the dude who fell for the girl he was stringing along forever... CHECK

Has the movie taught me anything I didn't know... HECK NO!!!! But the commentary from the guys in the room was very insightful.

Now, I am slightly inclined to believe that because they sat in my living room, offered commentary, laughed, joked, and gave me a hug goodbye... they still aren't that into me... TODAY!!!

tomorrow I may interpret all of that for interest...

Safe

So I wrote a new poem (I don't write often mainly because I never really feel inspired to do so) because lately I felt like I had something that needed to be said and I just had to get this off my chest. Feel free to tell me what you think and/or discuss what it is that I'm talking about

Safe

Cynic the pitcher
Is about to strike me out
and it's without a doubt, that I can see this game coming to an end

At the bottom of the 9th and my team has 2 outs
2 Popfly hopefuls that could go, all the way

And unfortunately nobody knows
When the wind is gonna change
and make sure that things, are not the same

But still I remain, up next in the game

I must admit, it's n
ot my first attempt at this,
but I suck even in practice,

Guess the stakes Are top high
Or maybe I'm too shy
To swing at every pitch

Ball he calls, then strike, then foul
How quickly I'm down in the count now,

Gotta pay attention but i don't see my pitch
It's high and outside
Oh that's ball number 2
Cynic thinks he's slick, but look son, I got you
right past my nose he throws ball 3,

Can't believe the counts now in favor of Me!
So with this last pitch, I
'll take my chanceand swing
I just want a base hit,
As I hit top speed and run for my life
I don't think twice if this is even right

I'm just running like a bat outta hell
and it feels sorta like love put a spell on that last ball
cuz I hit the base quick and I didn't even fall,

But I see this base is not for me
And there's no second guessing,

Here's my chance to steal second

Steal like take what's not mine
or not at this time but it's too close to wait,
so when nobody's lookin

Headed towards this place I know so well,
this base I couldn't tell was closer than it seemed
I'm no Ricky Henderson and I don't do this often,
And I don't do this often but now it's worth the risk
With each step I'm closer to the place I need to be

Now I'm running at the speed of sound

Can't even feel my feet hit the ground
And I know that I'm not only racing against time
I'm racing to get mine and...

I'm pickled between my past and my future
But I cAn't go back I'm likely to get injured

If I keep running foward I might get caught
Might be picked off
Might be...

But with each might I just take flight
I hit the ground so hard
And the base with one hand

I can't hear past the crowd
My mind is in space
Did the umpire yell out
Or am I really, safe?
